Ever since the earthquake brought telephone and internet communication with Haiti to a virtual halt, family and friends in the U.S. have been anxiously awaiting news from the parents of Coffy and his five brothers; nobody knew what has become of them. In Chicago, Coffy, his wife Yakini, their children Akin and Ade, and Grandma hoped and prayed for a phone call, an email, or any news of their family in Haiti.<br /><br />With the worldwide relief effort still offering little news or hope, Coffy, in desperation, finally did the only thing left to do: he took the next flight to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, hoping to make his away West across the Dominican Republic, across the border with Haiti, and into the coastal city of Port au Prince, Haiti.<br /><br />The Ajanaku-Coffy family in Chicago is important to the lives of many, and it pains all who know them see them suffer. In this little corner of the internet, we hope to do our part in making Coffy's search successful. With the devastation brought by the earthquake, food and clean water are scarce in Haiti, as are medical supplies and transportation. From this website, we will give some background, maintain a <a href="http://helpcoffyblog.blogspot.com/">blog</a> documenting Coffy's journey, and conduct an effort to <a href="http://helpcoffy.blogspot.com/2010/01/donate.html">raise money</a> through donations to fund both Coffy's search and his ability to help others in need.<br /><br /><table><tr><td><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg49OWhM2qgX7pYRpyCM8XL73l7MUDqi6AJSmphKIuL4LoJXs31mpnl1IxwoWhdUaIRO4UvmW5Bcquc_GQdY0vWFzc0ZWXwsb7CCA4Qz8sC6-ju7mAveuKdv1h3-D5Wcs9dSpnMMvGjMe8/s1600-h/ZilaniaJoassaint1.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 177px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg49OWhM2qgX7pYRpyCM8XL73l7MUDqi6AJSmphKIuL4LoJXs31mpnl1IxwoWhdUaIRO4UvmW5Bcquc_GQdY0vWFzc0ZWXwsb7CCA4Qz8sC6-ju7mAveuKdv1h3-D5Wcs9dSpnMMvGjMe8/s200/ZilaniaJoassaint1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5428700597151878978" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Zilania Joassaint, Jean Paul's mother</span><br /></td><td><br /><br /><br /><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSnf9rBz5QU8SxDiLS-wwtQ71nmeF5OMA_Osb4WCf3TP3Cz6wr0LOk2vpoyyG-bn3VgCs2TSKg59rlL6tnz4c7BzfnykAn7I-_Ux8gWxEVewpH8hy98OZbK9EdEaODX7uMWfIjXyB6huo/s1600-h/reservecoffy1.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 192px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSnf9rBz5QU8SxDiLS-wwtQ71nmeF5OMA_Osb4WCf3TP3Cz6wr0LOk2vpoyyG-bn3VgCs2TSKg59rlL6tnz4c7BzfnykAn7I-_Ux8gWxEVewpH8hy98OZbK9EdEaODX7uMWfIjXyB6huo/s200/reservecoffy1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5428701398427898994" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Reserve Coffy, Jean Paul's father</span></div><br /></td></tr></table><br /><br /><span style="color: rgb(204, 102, 0);font-size:130%;font-weight: bold;">About this blog</span><br />This blog is maintained by parents of <span style="font-style:italic;">La Grande Famille</span> on a voluntary basis. We do our best to keep it up to date and report news as we get them. However, due to the unstable internet connection with Haiti and the Dominican Republic, sometimes materials, especially Coffy's notes, photos and short videos that he's been taking with his phone arrive with a few days delay. We post them anyway even though they are out of their "proper" place in the time-line.<br />Some of the posts are messages from other people, and are posted with their consent.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6325034072824576180.post-15235683867137003062010-01-20T10:46:00.031-06:002010-01-25T13:30:48.808-06:00ThanksAlthough we are just at the beginning of our journey to help our family in Haiti and (in the longer term) helping Haiti help itself, we already feel in debt to so many people who reached out and supported us. This is not by any means a complete list.<br /><br /><hr width=3% align=left><br />Every parent of La Grande Famille, WITHOUT HESITATION, reached out in their own way: be it a donation, a kind gesture, or even a warm smile. Since the crisis, each and everyone one of you have shown sincere concern, inquiring about Coffy and his families whereabouts everyday.<br /> <br />The staff have been amazingly supportive in every way imaginable. Brittany will be staying here until Coffy returns; Chantal bought lovely flowers for me today. A colleague of mine Ms. Robin Hawkins in the daycare network donated one of her staff named Paola to help Marta and myself in the daycare from 8-10. Marta helped with lunch, and told me everyday that everything is going to be fine. Ms. Gloria is on standby just in case I need anything. Marissa has never missed a beat, and Angie, our lunch relief, is always here with high spirits.<br /> <br />My sister Mary has volunteered to take Akin to school in the morning and to help out in the daycare. We have failed to mention though that her father, Claude Nady, is currently missing in Haiti. We hope it turns out well.<br /> <br />Grandma has come to help in the daycare also, when her strength allows her to. Akin promises to be the man of the house, taking out the trash and making sure "all the doors are locked at night." And finally Pelle seems to provide comfort and joy to our family when we need it most.<br /><br />Its amazing how in crisis, one can measure their strength. And I feel very strong with all of you and my family around.<br /><hr width=3% align=left><blockquote>The parents of La Grande Famille are amazed by the way the daycare keeps operating smoothly and never skipped a beat. We know that everybody is doing above and beyond these days to make sure the kids aren't affected (though they all miss Coffy and wish he came back!) and we really appreciate it.</blockquote><hr width=3% align=left><br />Ryan Rozenberg, our loved "manny" who used to babysit Akin, has volontered his time to cook lunch for La Grand Famille daycare.<br /><hr width=3% align=left><br />Our dear neighbor, Dr. Linda E. Thomas, organized a fund raiser in our behalf titled "Am I my neighbor's keeper? --yes i am!", and raised $225. <br /><hr width=3% align=left><br />We thank the many individuals, family, neighbors, friends, friends of friends, friends-of-friends-of-friends and complete strangers who made donations either in person or online. We thank each and every one of you.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6325034072824576180.post-77492848871883202402010-01-20T10:46:00.025-06:002010-01-21T21:22:34.482-06:00Missing...If you have any information of the whereabouts of our beloved family members, please call (?) or send a message to helphaitihelpitself@yahoo.com<br /><br />Jan 21, 2010 update: <a href="http://helpcoffyblog.blogspot.com/2010/01/moving-moment-in-history.html">Coffy found his parents!</a><br /><br /><table><tr><td><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSnf9rBz5QU8SxDiLS-wwtQ71nmeF5OMA_Osb4WCf3TP3Cz6wr0LOk2vpoyyG-bn3VgCs2TSKg59rlL6tnz4c7BzfnykAn7I-_Ux8gWxEVewpH8hy98OZbK9EdEaODX7uMWfIjXyB6huo/s1600-h/reservecoffy1.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 192px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSnf9rBz5QU8SxDiLS-wwtQ71nmeF5OMA_Osb4WCf3TP3Cz6wr0LOk2vpoyyG-bn3VgCs2TSKg59rlL6tnz4c7BzfnykAn7I-_Ux8gWxEVewpH8hy98OZbK9EdEaODX7uMWfIjXyB6huo/s200/reservecoffy1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5428701398427898994" border="0" /></a></td><td><span style="font-style:italic;">Reserve Coffy</span><br />Jean Paul's father, 60 years old</tr><tr><td><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg49OWhM2qgX7pYRpyCM8XL73l7MUDqi6AJSmphKIuL4LoJXs31mpnl1IxwoWhdUaIRO4UvmW5Bcquc_GQdY0vWFzc0ZWXwsb7CCA4Qz8sC6-ju7mAveuKdv1h3-D5Wcs9dSpnMMvGjMe8/s1600-h/ZilaniaJoassaint1.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 177px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg49OWhM2qgX7pYRpyCM8XL73l7MUDqi6AJSmphKIuL4LoJXs31mpnl1IxwoWhdUaIRO4UvmW5Bcquc_GQdY0vWFzc0ZWXwsb7CCA4Qz8sC6-ju7mAveuKdv1h3-D5Wcs9dSpnMMvGjMe8/s200/ZilaniaJoassaint1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5428700597151878978" border="0" /></a></td><td><br /><span style="font-style:italic;">Zilania Joassaint</span><br />Jean Paul's mother is 63 years old, had surgery and is bed ridden.</td></tr></table>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6325034072824576180.post-58129199436760113172010-01-20T10:46:00.024-06:002010-01-20T13:26:44.139-06:00<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4a33u2tdElsafDtvMtO7mVj8P5Z3QaHvvuq_4oy7p_qnq0u6s0k2p8SRVIQotiO2nuQ3AbS9tvPKt2NuNbe9pQwsqE_evinpEMlgzXpwYJ6eU5dllni_KEWpO3EdgwTrc5Cx7s92Mqf5L/s1600-h/jpcoffy.jpg"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 154px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4a33u2tdElsafDtvMtO7mVj8P5Z3QaHvvuq_4oy7p_qnq0u6s0k2p8SRVIQotiO2nuQ3AbS9tvPKt2NuNbe9pQwsqE_evinpEMlgzXpwYJ6eU5dllni_KEWpO3EdgwTrc5Cx7s92Mqf5L/s200/jpcoffy.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5428905235549901122" /></a><br /><span style="color: rgb(204, 102, 0); font-weight: bold;font-size:130%;" >Who is Coffy?</span><br />Years ago, Coffy and his family moved to Chicago from Haiti. In Chicago, Coffy, his wife Yakini, their children Akin and Ade, and Grandma hope and pray for a phone call, an email, or any news of their family in Haiti.<br /><br />With the worldwide relief effort still offering little news or hope, Coffy, in desperation, finally did the only thing left do: he took the next flight to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, hoping to make his away West across the Dominican Republic, across the border with Haiti, and into the coastal city of Port au Prince, Haiti.<br /><br />The Ajanaku-Coffy family in Chicago is important to the lives of many, and it pains all who know them see them suffer. In this little corner of the internet, we hope to do our part in making Coffy's search successful. With the devastation brought by the earthquake, food and clean water scarce in Haiti, as are medical supplies and transportation. From this website, we will give some background, maintain a blog documenting Coffy's search, and conduct an effort to raise money through donations to fund both Coffy's search and his ability to help others in need.<br /><br /><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSnf9rBz5QU8SxDiLS-wwtQ71nmeF5OMA_Osb4WCf3TP3Cz6wr0LOk2vpoyyG-bn3VgCs2TSKg59rlL6tnz4c7BzfnykAn7I-_Ux8gWxEVewpH8hy98OZbK9EdEaODX7uMWfIjXyB6huo/s1600-h/reservecoffy1.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 192px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSnf9rBz5QU8SxDiLS-wwtQ71nmeF5OMA_Osb4WCf3TP3Cz6wr0LOk2vpoyyG-bn3VgCs2TSKg59rlL6tnz4c7BzfnykAn7I-_Ux8gWxEVewpH8hy98OZbK9EdEaODX7uMWfIjXyB6huo/s200/reservecoffy1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5428701398427898994" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-style:italic;">Reserve Coffy, Jean Paul's father</span></div><br /><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg49OWhM2qgX7pYRpyCM8XL73l7MUDqi6AJSmphKIuL4LoJXs31mpnl1IxwoWhdUaIRO4UvmW5Bcquc_GQdY0vWFzc0ZWXwsb7CCA4Qz8sC6-ju7mAveuKdv1h3-D5Wcs9dSpnMMvGjMe8/s1600-h/ZilaniaJoassaint1.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 177px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg49OWhM2qgX7pYRpyCM8XL73l7MUDqi6AJSmphKIuL4LoJXs31mpnl1IxwoWhdUaIRO4UvmW5Bcquc_GQdY0vWFzc0ZWXwsb7CCA4Qz8sC6-ju7mAveuKdv1h3-D5Wcs9dSpnMMvGjMe8/s200/ZilaniaJoassaint1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5428700597151878978" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-style:italic;">Zilania Joassaint, Jean Paul's mother</span></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com
